Why plan a site?
To put it in layman terms, would you build a house without a floor plan? Any website, no matter how small, should be treated the same way; whether it's a few minutes making an outline or a few hours for a complete road map.
According to a study, 68% of IT projects fail, many due to poor requirements analysis. This lack of foresight and planning means that they were doomed from the start. A website is basically an IT project that requires a complete understanding of the needs it fills and the various functions to do that, ranging from e-commerce to content management systems and beyond. As with any building, all of the different parts of a website come in a variety of brands, sizes, quality and pricing. You can choose from the expensive custom-tailored solutions or from more reasonable and even free software packages and services.It takes time, knowledge and expertise to come up with a marketing strategy and plan a way through a website's development, deployment and maintenance within budget and on time. An Information Architect would take all of a website project's requirements then engineer a complete blueprint for a website and the information that drives it. An IT Project Coordinator would be responsible for developing bids and sending them out, then obtaining and managing third parties and/or contractors who do the actual work on the website. Even a half hour of project planning and management by such professionals would save you untold hours of research and uncertainty so you can devote more time to your other needs.
