December 2009
The Holidays have come upon us as swift as a reindeer. We're as busy as elves preparing for great things to come. Eventida. Studios. Networks and marketing. We gotta do it all...
New Server & Secure Emails
This news is for clients who host their websites with Studios. In the first week of December, we finally moved to a dedicated server. We used to be on a shared server serving up 1000's of other websites concurrently. Our dedicated server is a full computer sporting an Intel Core2 Duo 2.13 GHz with 2 GB RAM that focuses entirely on serving our 30+ websites. The result? Your websites and host-based emails will respond faster as there's a lot less interference from other websites that demand resources.
As part of this move we have set up a shared SSL (secure socket layer) host under "serenity.satdaya.com". This means you can use this domain to take advantage of encrypted transmissions. e-Commerce websites will naturally need to get their own SSL under their domains, but other users can take advantage of our shared SSL for both web and email purposes.
To use the shared SSL for your website, you need to change your links to point to: https://serenity.satdaya.com/~user
The "user" part is replaced by your cPanel username. So if your cPanel username is "me" you'll do the link as: https://serenity.satdaya.com/~me
For emails, you will need to change your incoming and outgoing servers to point to serenity.satdaya.com, and check the SSL options in your preferences. I have screenshots and instructions for Mac Mail. You PC geniuses should be able to understand how it applies to MS Outlook and other PC email software, if not, please contact us for further assistance. Note that GMail or Google Apps users do not need to worry about this.
The reason why you should do this is because all unencrypted data that's transmitted over the Internet is vulnerable to anyone who may be looking at it. SSL encrypts the data as it is sent over the Internet. This is the same security that secures your online credit card transations.

Change the incoming server to serenity.satdaya.com.

Check the SSL option.

Edit your outgoing server list per the drop-down menu in the first image. Make sure the server is serenity.satdaya.com.

Go into Advanced and check the SSL tab. Making these changes blanks out your password, so re-enter it and you're done!
Contact us if you have any issues setting this up or if you want SSL installed on your own domain.
