Every organization or business needs to have some form of a Customer Relationship Management program - in other words, the ability to track and organize contacts with current and prospective customers. Software for CRM usually includes any number of these features: ability to manage a salesforce; facilitate order fulfillment process(es); manage and track campaigns; distribute and quantify and/or qualify leads; simple to complex contact management; assign tasks; share materials; and more. CRM solutions are most useful when the full needs of the organization has been considered, from sales to shipping to finance. Furthermore, integration with other technology being used by the organization will streamline operations and maximize profitability.
When selecting a CRM solution, there are dozens, if not hundreds of variables to consider. Typically, the larger the organization, the more to consider. Here are a few examples:
- Points of data entry - where can automation reduce the cost of human resources?
- Existing system's technology - if looking for a new system to replace an old one, migration can become extremely costly if the new platform cannot accept data from the old platform
- Number of staff and levels of access / user permission needed
- Customer needs - whatever fits the organization internally may not necessarily be the best fit for the typical or target customer of the organization
- The training and learning curve - costs not internally but externally - will existing customer relations be negatively impacted by requiring the customers to learn to use a new system?
